Yering Farm Winery Melbourne Wine Tour. History
Yering Farm is one of the best boutique wineries in Yarra Valley included in private Melbourne wine tours. By 1890 around 60% of Australian wine were produced in Victoria. However, in 1920s there was a decline in wine production in Australia including the Yarra Valley region. Many vineyards were reverted back to pasture.
Only in 1960s the interest in wine production began to emerge. Some new small vineyards were established in Yarra Valley planting a wide range of grape varieties. Since late 1970s and up to today the wine production in Australia has been increasing due to growing local and international demand.
The Johns family were fruit growers for generations. They purchased the 200 acre farming land in Yarra Valley and planted the first grape vines in 1989. Today the property is family owned. The Johns family focuses on growing high quality, low yield grapes of each variety.
